Overview

People are living longer lives and the proportion of older people in the population is increasing. In mid-2016 there were 1.6 million people aged 85 and over; by mid-2041 this is projected to double to 3.2 million. Offering older people, a better choice of accommodation to suit their changing needs can help them live independently for longer, feel more connected to their communities and help reduce costs to the social care and health systems.

Our Solution

Our Planning team have an extensive experience in securing planning permission for specialist housing for the older population. This includes securing planning permission for new care home developments, the extension of existing accommodation to provide additional bedrooms/facilities as well as the remodelling of existing buildings to facilitate improvements to the care provision. Aitchison Raffety are currently involved in securing planning permission for a 60no. bedroom care home in Northampton. Aitchison Raffety led in the co-ordination and preparation of a full planning application for the care home development. The site is adjacent to a Grade II Listed Building and the proposed design has sought to reinforce the historic character of the area by reflecting an art deco design. The planning application is currently under consideration by the Council.

In addition, Aitchison Raffety have provided planning services to Langton Care Homes, including securing planning permission for a 36no. bedroom care home extension to their Derby facility and an extra 12 bedrooms in Chesterfield.
